Don’t Overdo It

You have seen us talk about how important outbound linking is, but it is necessary to stress that everything can be good for you… in moderation.

If you have too many links on a page, a spider may deem it an attempt at subverting the system, and end up penalizing your site… or even banning it.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure you have less than 100 links on any given page, while making sure that the links are pointing to categorically relevant sites.  Keep in mind that the 100 link rule should apply to link TOTAL, so if you have 20 links on a page that navigate to other areas of your site, you should have fewer than 80 additional links.
